I’m super-stoked to report that I’ve completed a very helpful course of study presented by the University of North Florida—AI for Work and Life. It was an online course with eight one-hour sessions, presented by AI academics at UNF and other universities, and leaders and users from the healthcare, legal, and financial sectors.
Session topics include:
1. AI Foundation and Future—a brief history of AI, and a look to its future
2. AI Tools for Everyday Use—a review of the “big 4” AI entities, and discussion of several AI engines that specialize in certain tasks like graphic design and video creation
3. The Art & Science of AI Prompting—how to structure prompts so as to maximize usefulness and minimize bad output
4. AI for Better Living—using AI for wellness, tutoring, hobbies and many other applications in addition to research
5. AI Across the Enterprise—AI ethics and the best strategies to minimize such harms as AI hallucinations and privacy violations
6. AI in Key Industries—executives from healthcare, finance, and the legal profession shared how AI can help improve efficiency and quality
7. AI in Society—addressing AI risks, how to design AI so as to improve transparency in use and treat people equitably
8. AI Course Wrap-up Summary—as narrated by a very realistic AI avatar completed by UNF students
As noted on previous blog posts I’ve been using AI as a research assistant for a while now. I’ve learned to use sophisticated prompts to get helpful and accuate information quickly. But having taken this course, I have increased confidence in my use of AI, while being more fully aware of the risks of its misuse and how to minimize them in my own work.
BTW the course, valued at $249, is available free of charge until 12/31/25.
